Should I place my lobo in the sand facing up? From what I have seen in some other tanks this is the placement. I have noticed my lobo is looking a little "skinny" I am afraid he is not eating very well. You can see where he is placed in the pictures. He is "skinny" then "fat" he extends tentacles at night, but I'm not sure he getting what he needs. Any insight is appreciated!

i would put them on the sandbed(bottom) facing up and when the light goes out that's when you feed them. try meaty seafood like shrimp, clams or fish. just pieces of them.

i would be more worried about the gaping almost non-existant mouths in pic 1

+ 1 on vacavillefc3s and the exposed skeleton increase flow a little and put on the sand and target feed meaty foods like bogliman suggests..

Fortunatly for him the bubble algae aren't hurting the lobo they are just ugly.

So do all of you target feed lobos at night? I feel like my fish wake up, and eat everything

Mine is on the sandbed with a slight overhang blocking some of the light. I feed mysis about 60min after the lights go off at night. The only thing I have to watch out for is the Pep shrimp come out and try to steal away its food. Mine took a while to settle into my tank and for a week or so wasn't really eating but then finally came around and has been doing great.

Hi,

I am new to Reef Central and this is my very first post. Greetings all.

I have two lobos in my nano tank. Both are on live rock. Here is a picture of one of them:

The lobophyllia in this picture has been placed in a crevice on LR. Placing them on sand will be just fine as well.

you definately need to move it so it's facing up, not towards your front glass. the way you have it, it is getting no light. try really aggressively feeding it. turn off all powerheads, skimmers, etc.

i personally have one on the sand bed in my 75 lit by one 250w halide. been in the tank for months position facing more towards the front glass than up and been doing well since day one... none of it is really shaded even with it's position
