RSM 250 Skimmer help

Any tips or tricks on getting this thing to work properly? Im just getting
tons of bubbles in the main display...

Also, when I turn the air valve completely off bubbles are still
being produced and pushed throughout the tank. I upgraded from
the RSM 130 and have been around the block a few times so
this is kinda frustrating.

So, Aquaman, what WAS the solution? I have a 130D, and have the same "bubble" issue. I once saw a post that casually mentioned "cutting the sponge to eliminate the bubble problem", but I have never been able to find it ever since. Further, why are the bubbles worse some days than others?
