Are these water pumps any good? I'm looking at the Gen-X GX6000 (https://www.customaquatic.com/estore/control/product/~product=WP-PCGX-6000).

Has anyone used, owns, or has any recommendations about these pumps?

Some report issues with the metal pate inside (rusting).
Mine seem to have lasted longer than some others but ultimately it quit on me.... not the longest lasting pump I have tried.

I run a gx6000. No metal plate inside mine. I am at 1.5 years on this unit, still rocking away! If I had to do it all over, I would still choose the gx6000. One heck of a bang for the buck / a ton of flow.

Every year and a half or so, they may need a new impeller / shaft assembly but no biggie. These parts are cheap for them. Heck the whole pump cost less than what some charge just for the impeller and shaft haha.

In short, highly recommended for an affordable pump with high flow. And do not listen to any reef snobbery saying they are junk because they are affordable blah blah. I have owned several in the GX linup and all have performed well beyond expectation. One of my old gx1500's is still running in another locals tank, pushing 3+ years now of non stop use with only a few rare cleanings!

Absolute garbage..2 in 2 years..I thought the first one that burning out was a fluke, I have one on a recirculation skimmer..tonight I smelled burning and shut everything down to find the problem..it was the gen x 2400 all burnt up again..thank God I did not put my hand in the sump like last time ..got a good jolt that time, anyway both pumps lasted about 12 months, inside plates that are epoxy coated are rusted out and exposed to the water, safety hazzard big time..... now I have to find a replacement that will fit. I do have the original gx 1500 it is fine..must be a design flaw with the 2400's
