Hey guys, noticed another new thing in my tank. Hoping on an ID. I found these about 4 days ago while viewing my tank. The tank and set-up is new, and the cycle is JUST ABOUT complete. I have these things growing on one specific rock, and they have grown TREMENDOUSLY in the last 4 days. These things are about as thick as the lead of a pencil, they are clear/white, and NOW about an inch long. 4 days ago, they were only about 1/8". They are solitary, meaning just one "stalk" then a given space before another one, with no flesh connecting them. I found a photo of an anemone, where the "tenticles" look almost identical to the things I found, except they are attached to a nem.

Also, the things I have do NOT move, do not even sway with the water motion.

Thanks for the help guys.

Is that an actual pic of yours or the one you said you found?

one I found online. I doubt that I can get a picture, but I will try.

The things I have look like solitary tenticles from that nem above.

Here's a photo, it's not great, but it does show the 2 largest ones. They are all pretty close to one another, and there seems to be about 10-15 of them, some just starting to grow, the 2 pictured are about an inch long.

If your just seeing the tentacles and its growing quickly you are likely dealing with aiptasia.

What color are they? If they are brown, +1 on aiptasia

no, they are clear to whitish, JUST like the anemone tenticles in the first pic.

Problem is, it's like you took one of those nem tenticles, cut it off the nem, then attached it BY ITSELF to a rock.

If I had to guess, I would think it's some kind of sponge, but my fear is that with that rate of growth, it is something bad for the tank.

I also gave my rocks a nice once-over, or 4x over, when they first came in, and could not see any aiptasia.

My neighbor is charging his camera for me to use, that is MUCH better than mine and will show it much better.

do you have a macro setting on your camera..usually a little flower icon..will help you get a much better shot.

no, sadly my camera is one of those ultra-slims. It doesn't have zoom, focus, anything. It has a button for power and a button to snap the photo. My neighbors camera is VERY good, and should be charged in about another 20 minutes.

ok, here's a pretty good shot. You can see the 2 largest ones, and if you look hard can see some teeny tiny ones next to them.

They look like sponges to me but I am not sure of the type. Should be a good thing as they should help filter the water.

yeah, seem like sponges to me too, and they are in a fairly high-flow area, BUT the growth rate seemed rediculous to me. I mean from 1/8" to 1" in roughly 3 days. That's why it seemed interesting.

ALSO, thought they were filter feeders. And other than whatever hitch-hiking matter on the rocks, there has not been one addition of food or anything for them to filter. We will see.

Thank you for your help everyone.
