If so, I would like to see your aquascapes, it seems like everytime I get a good idea, it would only work in an 18" tank. Im stuck with the tank for a while, so I would like to see some ideas, I have some really nice rock just not sure what to do with the dimentions. heres a couple pics.

looks like open is the way to go, it would also eliminate the flow problems I have, my only problem is i have 2x t12 vho, so I gotta get my sps kinda close to the light, anyone else got any bright ideas?

I have a standard 30g long. the rock isn't thrown in there with any sort of theme. I'd suggest just keep messing around til its the way you like. I've messed with mine a few times but once you get corals mounted it becomes more difficult to alter.

Get some better lights if you want SPS and less rock, which I recommend using minimal rock so they can grow out.
