My feeder dispenses at 8:00.

I turned my head to look at my tank and there was my tang hovering under the feeder looking upward willing for food to drop from the heavens. I wonder how he does that.

it seems that all fish think about is food at all times. Pigs!!!

Does the tang only do it right before it dumps? I suspect he does it a lot during the day.

Fish along with other animals also, have a since of time. My fish all know when its feeding time and they come over to get food. They don't do it during the day. If they could bark like my dogs do when I'm late they would.

Anytime we go near out tank the fish go crazy thinking that they are being fed. 75% of the time they are disappointed.

Not only do fish and animals have a built in clock.

It could also be a case of....Pavlov's Dog

The feeder might make a certain sound right before it dumps the food. The fish may sence/hear that sound and then know its feeding time.

I wouldn't be surprise if he knows when it is about to come. My dog knows down to the minute what time dinner is ;)

yeah good question, how do the know that, and how do salmon find their way back to the river they were born in, the marine kingdom is a "still unknown" mystery, we know more about the moon than the oceans

Most likely has to do with cycling hormone levels in the fish- directly linked to light exposure. These types or hormones (serotonin for people) work in all animals and give cues for everything from time to eat, to time to breed, to initiation of migration. Hormones predictably peak in animals at certain times of the day. The fish are likely responding to that.

Corals are the same way. Leave your lights on 30 minutes longer than you normally would and look at them. They will have their feeder's extended and will look like they do at night.

If Im late on my evening feeding, my fish are all at the front glass freaking out and looking at me across the room. Its a little unerving sometimes.
