I would personally go for the bigger footprint, ie the latter.

Angels (and most fish) are laterally compressed, hence most swim side to side, as opposed to up and down. A bigger footprint allows a larger swimming space, and room for turning/manoeuvring.

Seahorses, for example, are longitudinally compressed, and tend to swim more up and down instead. Hence they are more suited to a taller type setup.
Cheers

Since you've stated its a tank for large angels, I wouldnt pick either tank... you need something with more length, 5 feet simply wont be enough.

I'd go with at least an 8 foot tank.

Yep, otherwise you'll be constantly upgrading like me...from 24g-75g-180 & 125 and again the need to upgrade. Who knows...after the 8 footer probably would want a 10 footer. :lolspin:
