I have another question, Im not sure if it constitutes another thread, but I am just gonna go for it. Should I be using activated carbon in addition to protein skimming? I was told not to put it in any area of high flow but if not in my extra chamber on the protein skimmer where should I put it assuming it is both beneficial and necessary?

My tank specs if this helps is a 40 gallon breeder, 2 maxi-jet 1200 with wavemaker, reefocto bh-100f skimmer, 1 2 bulb coralife t-5 fixture. About 45 pounds of lr and a hawkfish and gold stripe maroon clown.
Thanks for reading,
Connor

I plop a bag of carbon in between the baffles in my sump, I would say its high flow, works great, you dont want the carbon to be in such high flow that it gets broken down, but enough flow to have water pass through it. Even better would be to get a reactor. I think a majority of people skim and use carbon.

I skim and use carbon. Carbon is in an area of low flow.

I also use Activated Carbon and Skim. I use a Two Little Fishes reactor for the carbon and like the setup, the carbon can be changed easily and the flow regulated.

I always run GAC, I use a TLF reactor to run it.

I run chemi-pure and phos-zorb in my rena canister filter. I try to change it once a month along with cleaning the filter pads.

I skim and I run carbon and GFO from bulk reef supply in seperate reactors 24/7.

I skim and run the brs dual reactor

I run carbon once a month for 2-3 days through an external filter.

I always run GFO and AC in a big MR1 reactor with a maxi 900 on it
