Im looking to get a flamethrower chalice. What does BPC stand for? Is this the lineage i should be looking for. Are there flaethrowers that arent BPC? Anyone know where i can get one?

Anyone want to post some flame thrower pics?

BPC= Blue Planet Corals. There are some knockoffs out there.

Okay let me think....The last place I seen a chalice named the Flamethrower was at Tropicorium.I think they wanted 249.99 for it?And lik eI think you only get one eye!

yeah but its not a BPC. Does that mean its a less colorful/less hardy strain? I dont really understand the diff between a BPC and a knock off.

The BPC FT is by far prettier, IMO:

BPC is the original one, the trop one is not nearly as nice. Look for the striations around the eyes and the fairly smooth skin. There are a few BPC FTers floating around these parts....

Heres the story. Imported through a local store and bought and owned by a local reefer, fragged up and sold at our annual frag swap. BPC bought some of the frags and named it. Others in this area bought the rest and have slowly been selling/trading them to others. The fakes are pretty easy to spot.

The first one is the original, BPC. I have seen that one in person and it is impressive. I can't open the second link so I cant say if it is a BPC.

Does anyone have a BPC flame thrower that they would part with?

I've always kept mine in the sand bed, low light as far as my tank goes.

Not completely, the grey/whitish striations are really only apparent on the more mature eyes. If I were shopping for one I would want to see a picture of the colony that it came off of as well as the frag. The rim color, eye color and flesh color should all match the one in my picture. If they are really immature frags then they won't have the striations. The trops FTer and anyother fakes I've seen aren't even close to the colors of the BPC. Or you could ask for lineage.

how long has it taken for you to grow a frag into that size chalice?

Its a slow grower. I had the 2 mature eyes that popped out about 6 or 7 baby eyes. But that took over 6 months. You dont really see any with big eyes for sale anymore, mostly just the little frags with really tiny immature eyes.

Hey Paul, if you're slicing up your BGM save me a frag. I've always wanted one of those! By the way, my flame thrower is still doing fine. Hasn't grown noticably yet, but I suspect thats because I haven't been feeding my chalices regularly like I should. The colors look amazing though.

Feed it and it will grow. It seems to take a long time to go from little eyes to mature eyes but then it'll take off.

As far as the BGM, mine just took off and I'll hold a nice one for you.

I'll answer for him. The whole FTer chalice thing started here 2 years ago. So no it wasn't a 1 eyed frag.

Yeah... Ill take the other half... LOL
Seriously, that just makes me want to never frag the flamethrower when i get mine and just let it grow for 5 years.

Thanks for sharing the pics.... I actually have it as a screen saver on my PC.

It is a little over 2x2 inches. It was one of the first frags that came from the original mother colony about a year and half ago. I don't remember how many eyes it had but it about 1 inch when I got it.

Yeah thats what I said about 10 frags ago. Its an amazing coral and needs to be shared with others. I have a list of people that have bought them from me that if I lose mine I will call upon to sell me it back. Thats the whole reason for fragging right? Hell I've been trying to talk Ian into fragging the big one he has too.

That is definitely true... this coral should be shared. but we need someone to keep one unfragged so that we can see what its supposed to look like as a large colony.

Dont get me wrong, i hope he sells me a frag!!!!! They are just awesome as a big colony
