Bought a Blue Throat Trigger at Seascape last Saturday. I know these fish can be shy at first, but I've had the fish for 5 days and he is still not out swimming regularly and has not eaten. I have been feeding my fish mysis shrimp to try and get the trigger to eat. He will eat a mysis shrimp and then spit it out. The fish was not eating when I bought it but I know this species of fish will eventually eat anything.

Should I be concerned that it is not coming out of the rock work very often, and that it has not eaten yet?

Any ideas what else I might feed the fish to get him to eat?

i use to have one and it took 2 weeks for it to come out some can take longer, make sure when you feed your tank leave the room so it will come out to eat.

Do you remember what you started feeding the fish?

I'd ask what they were feeding him at Seascape. They told me they won't sell a fish till it eats.

Whenver I get new fish that won't eat right away I mix up a batch of food in an old ketchup bottle with a no drip squirt cap. I usually put in a variety of foods such as Rod's, mysis, brine shrimp, cyclopeeze, etc. mixed in with Selcon. Then add some filtered water to the bottle and I can squirt in a little bit serveral times a day. This gives the new fish plenty of variety and opportunities to try something. If they aren't eating after a couple of days with this there is usually a bigger prolbem.

Could the trigger be getting harrassed at all? If anything else is bothering it the fish may not be as likely to come out or be curious enough to try new types of food.

No the fish is no being harassed at all. Actually the fish is of sufficiant size that it's the second largest fish. Haven't tried Rods food. That's a good idea. I know the fish will be fine but it just needs to eat. He also goes for cover when he sees me coming.

Thanks for the idea.
