Just wanted to know who has blue cloves in a sps tank and how do you like them. Didn't want to add anything I would regret later. Had a problem with the red xenia and hairy mushrooms in the past. Thanks

do not do it.. they will infest your tank like a weed.

same goes for xenia & gsp

I Run a separate "out"rock for my blue xenia and cloves. I never run them with my sps.

What do you mean by out rock?

What do you mean by out rock?

Probably means an island by itself so they can't walk all over the place

I think that is what he means but they still do find ways of moving all over the tank! Its inevitable that they will spread all over.

I have cloves and GSP / Xenia in my reef tank. I prefer the "pompom" xenia over the regular because it grows 1/24th as fast. Also a dedicated rock in the sandbed for the cloves/GSP helps alot.

I would not do it, having previously made that mistake on my last tank. I successfully kept GSP and xenia on separate "islands", but there was no containing the blue cloves. Yes, they look nice, they don't stink or bother anything, but they start showing up everywhere.

I have blue cloves. I like them and they are prety much everywhere. I didn't purposly add them the tank, but they don't seem to bother anything, they grow right up to my encrusting monti's and stop, same goes for all the sps as well. I think it's ea to their own. I wouldn't however do gsp or xenia, which I have done in the past. I'm currently trying to erradicate mushrooms out of the tank thta have gotten a little out of hand.

I love that look. I'd love for mine to spread like that!

I have some, they are ok but they will cover everything in no time....

Anyone know how that can be removed without having to nuke each rock they are on?

I had one a few months ago and it started spreading... I would like to stop it before it's to late!

Thanks

I remember that tank fondly Brad, I thought the blue cloves looked great as a base covering all your rockwork. That said, I am glad I took your advice and didn't add them to my tank. - Alan

I have it in my tank too. I like it though. It's not aggressive and fills/covers nicely.

I think the blue cloves covering the rocks looks awesome! If they're not aggressive I don't see what you wouldn't want them. If they were brown I could see why, but they're bright blue!:)

I have blue cloves on a separate rock not touching my main rock display as well as GSP on a separate rock and neither have made their way to other parts of the tank. My blue cloves are mixed in between my rics and I like the way it looks.

id try to keep them seperated if you do try them because you will find it hard to glue new pieces of coral to rock. pretty but that mat they have is very difficult to scrape off and always comes back.

Actually that is quite beautiful :)

Will they actually smother and grow on SPS?

Granted that GSP and Xenia will grow over everything, is there any other danger associated with any of them? will they chemically damage some SPS?

I've heard that they can actually grow over certain corals and their tissues, but even so I added some to my display. I love their look and although they haven't come close to taking everything over, they are starting to encrust over other rocks surrounding the frag plug. It's fine with me though.

They don't bother the sps at all. They'll grow right up to the edge and stop. They will find a way to mix in with zoa colonies though.

You can do some damage to them by rubbing them with a toothbrush. They are not nearly as tough as a GSP, but they do start showing up everywhere once established.

I like that blue carpet look..

Rather unique. Has management issues I'm sure, but the overall impact is stunning.

Wow....I love that look. A tank of those with a few choice SPS would look awesome.

Are you referring to cloves or GSP and Xenia as well?

I'm referring to the cloves not bothering sps. I didn't let xenia or GSP close to any of my sps, so I can't say what they would do. I always had xenia and GSP on a stand alone rock "island".

I have some in my tank on a frag plug. I was considering using them as a filler like the pic above but I'm scared I won't like it and I'll be stuck with it, lol. Right now I'm thinking I should get them out of the tank completely!

would those blue cloves prohibit zoanthid growth?
