I don't want to set up a frag tank yet so I was just thinking of putting a frag shelf in the main tank. What would be the easiest way to do this?

You could buy a magnetic frag rack like this http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/new-mag-rack-oceans-wonders.html or DIY one yourself with some eggcrate and suction cups, magnets or an acrylic hook.

I just use eggcrate and ziptie it to an old magfloat for cleaning the glass. Works great

When I had a small frag rack I used the suction cup method, at first it was in the top corner of the tank, and I used 3 suctions cups, to hold it up. The eggcrate was basically just sitting on top of the suction cups, with the weight of the frag distributed evenly I never had a problem with it falling down.

I eventually needed a larger frag rack, and made one that went across the front of the tank, all the way from the left to the right of the tank.
I cut it a little longer then the inside demensions of the tank, to sort of wedge it in there and then used only two suction cups to keep it from falling (one on the left side and one on the right) they both worked great

I don't have a pic of the small one in the corner (the first one) but here is a pic of the second and third ones that used to run the length of the tank

All of the pics below use suction cups to hold them up, (I really like to use the suction cups you get with the Maxi jet pumps they work great)

and here is what i have now moved to which runs from the back top of the tank to about 4 inches from the glass (about 4 times the space of the other frag racks)

Notice the suctions cups in the last pic, Two on each side of the frag rack for support

Never had it fall yet. (knock on wood)

I used egg crate and attached it to plastic door hangers with epoxy puddy. It hangs on the back wall of the tank. I'm talking about the things that fit over a door so you can hang a wreath or something.

I made mine out of some Korila powerheads I took the magnet pieces of the powerhead attached some tubing to it and zip tied it to the eggcrate.

I got mine from fragarack.com It is a little nicer than just eggcrate and fully expandable to large aquariums with thick glass
