View Full Version : Growing macro in overflow bow?

I have a 65g DAS tank that has the overflow box inside the tank. There are 3 sections of the box which contain the skimmer, return pump, and one that is empty.

Is it possible and worth the effort to try and grow macro in the empty section to help with starting a colony of pods? Light would be available over the area from my main tank lights. Is it possible, and worth the effort?

Here is a pic to help illustrate what I am referring to:

Go for it...lots of people take advantage of the empty space with these AIO tanks. Its a great use of space!

I suppose I could even grow it in the space on top of the return pump come to think of it. The inlet to the pump is on the bottom and inserted into a sponge (no real chance of clogging the return pump).

Now that the tank is up and running I am working out the plans for what the future will hold. With the AIO tank we don't get the benefit of the fuge, but I still would love to have a healthy pod population to give us options in future stocking. Plus, the benefits of having the macro uptake excess nutrients.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I wouldn't do it because I'd worry about clogging. It looks too small to be useful, for that matter.
