I just moved some chaeto to a new sump. And it stinks like rotten egg. Is it dead? Also turned a little brown, but still some green on it. but boy does it stink.. does anyone know how dead chaeto looks like? or stinks like..

It is usually attributed to all the detritus it traps because it grows so dense. That is one of the reasons I use caulerpa instead.
If it's the detritus, you can try washing it off in a bucket or somehting and see if that helps.

You have to thin it out a lot. It should smell like the ocean.

Periodicity I think you need to remove and wash out the detritus. Remove some to keep it healthy and growing.
