Does anyone have any creative ideas for covering up an overflow box? I was thinking about trying to get some time of coral to grow over it like xenia, star polyps, yellow polyps, etc. I was also thinking about gluing small rocks to it and making a small shelf. Anyone have any other ideas or examples? Pictures would be great also. Thanks.

I was thinking about making one of those foam & rock walls to cover up much of my corner overflow, but never got around to it before we set the tank up. I might still try it since I really don't like the coraline algae on flat surfaces. My other idea was to glue some shelves like you said to my acrylic overflow and mount some rocks, but again, that didn't happen!

Mine is coated in coraline. If you're patient, you probably have a self correcting problem.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd ever sit down and do all that glueing either. I was thinking about moving some encrusting corals up to the top by the overflow and seeing if the would just attach. I would like to see someone elses before I decide if I want to do that.

I don't want it covered just in coraline. I'm not doing it to hide the box, my back glass is painted black also so it's not a problem. I want to do something creative with it. All the overflows I see have coraline or algae growing on them and I want to do something different.

use the search function, search "rock wall" (titles only)
there are some neat pics of overflows...i may do it to mine someday. i like the ones you build (the "wall) on a plexi sheet , and hang on the overflow...

I have seen xenia, GSP, zoanthids, encrusting monti's, even various SPS...get some magnets to get things started and just put a bunch of things on there - in a few weeks, most will encrust and you'll be set.

Oh yeah...I've got to do one of those rock walls, that's perfect.

i've heard of people making their own liverock so maybe you could cover the overflowbox with the liverock mixture and make some cool shapes out of it and stuff, the problem would be that the rock would need at least 3 weeks in ro water to wash all the chemical and crap out of it before you put it back in your tank

I'm thinking a rock wall with small shelves with some zoas on each shelf would be nice. Thanks everyone.

You could glue some monti caps(Montipora Capricornis) to it.(via google) http://www.3reef.com/forums/attachments/coral/17419d1247351210-my-monti-cap-img_9947.jpg

Foam wall, waiting for coraline to grow and going to be adding more frags as the tank matures. Powerhead is also concealed in cave as well as the power cord. Sorry Iphone pic

Very nice tank. I can't grow a scrap of algae in my tank with the yellow tang and the lawnmower blenny.
