So LED fixtures have been around for sometime now. How are they when keeping sps long term? Can you maintain sps colors and have a decent growth rate? To sum up my question, is LED the future of reef lighting?

I have yet to see a successful grown out sps tank under nothing but LEDs. I think something better will come along before LEDs are perfected, like the Luxim plasma bulb.

For supplemental actinic they are promising. I plan to use them on my tank.

I'll let you know... I've not had the pieces long enough to say.. but I do see growth on my monti caps and I've had my ponape birdsnest on the sandbed in the lower right corner color up.

I had LEDs on my sps tank for 1.5 years. Most of the corals had awesome coral. A few did not, but the growth rate was unbelievable.

I'm about to switch completely to LEDs. Colors are spectacular and I've tried a few guinea pig frags in my z/p tank and had better growth than under my 400W halide. Take about half the electricity and never need to be replaced. Also excited about being able to tweak the kelvin rating with dimmers.

I'm running 44 Crees over my polyp tank, I'll probably run 80ish over my 30"x24" frag rack (mostly sps).
