With the 200 gallon Reef Crystal box if comes in 4 bags. If I add the bag to 50 gallons of water will I read the low end of the numbers? 1.021, 370 ca and 1095 Mg?

Most likely, it will produce a specific gravity around 1.021, which means your other parameters will be lower too.

i usually get 40 to 45 gallons out of the 50 gal bags

i get less than the advertised 160 gal buckets when i mix it to 1.026 so i bet the same goes for the bags too.

Pretty much all salt brands take more salt than advertised to reach the correct SG.

Yeah, I use Reef Crystals and I always have to add more than the 1/2 cup per gallon to reach 1.025/6

Ditto....I have a 100 saltwater mix tank for doing water changes. I buy the 200 gallon boxes. I usually do 90 gallons for RO water and it takes sometimes more than 2 of the 50 gallon bags to get to 1.026

it seems like they should post what SG the mix makes .

Jeez, I thought doing water changes on my 55 and 10 gallons was a chore. That's what we call a classy problem.

Not really a chore. Flip a couple valves....takes about 10 minutes. It was much more of a pain when I was mixing up 5-10 gallons at a time for my 34 gallon. Now that I have around 700 gallons (300 display and about 400 in sump) its A LOT easier.....although A LOT more expensive to do water changes.

They do, you just have to read the directions.IO's directions are based on a 1.022 SG.

35ppt with calibrated refracometer. usually get about 43 gallons with 50 gallon bag. have not measured total exactly. just based on how many 5 gallon buckets i get out for water changes. dont always fill buckets to the same level. depends on how tired i am that day. mix in a 45 gallon bowfront aquarium. have never got 35ppt out of any salt mix by following directions. though d&d has been closer than others

Well I know that it takes a 50 gallon bag and about 6 cups to get to 1.025 in 50 gallons of water.

reef crystals call for 1.4 lbs to make 5 gallons of 1.021 saltwater, how much by weight would it take to make a sg of 1.026. I have always wondered this myself.
I have an extra scale around so weighing is to me far easier, measuring it is always inaccurate. Thats the pastry chef in me talking there.

Assuming the first part is true, then it will take exactly 1.73 pounds to make 5 gallons of 1.026. :)

This is determined simply by multiplying 26/21 x 1.4 = 1.73. :)

No such luck, I was told they were illegal to harvest due to being an endangered species. I still keep looking though!......someday!
