The coral I aquired branches like a candy coral but has fused corallites like a favia. Has anyone seen one of these or even better, know what it is or can give me some info? Thanks

looks like a candy cane to me that has not acclimated yet. In time I would think it would become nice and "puffed" up for you..

here is the type I think it is for comparison..

Thanks for the ID, but I am positive it is not your common candy cane. I have had it in my aquarium for over 9 months, and have had candies for over 8 years. This piece looks like a favia with fused branches.

I have kept many favias and have never had one with "branches"..good luck though will be interesting to see what anyone else has to say..

My guess is that it is a Caulastrea.. but it doesn't really look like curvata or furcata... I'm leaning more towards furcata because the heads will grow in dense, all butted up against each other like your piece looks... but perhaps it is a different sp.
I doubt that it is a Favites personally.

Are you feeding it? and do you have any pics with the sweeper tentacles out?

I don't believe it is a candy coral. All the candies I have seen have taller coralites. Also I have never seen a candy with fused branches like this. I agree with you guys that it looks like a candy but I don't think that it is. It looks more like a Cladocora sp. than a Caulastrea but I am not sure. I don't feed it but the polyps extend at night and open like a candy or favia and are very uniform in length. Also it doesn't flesh out like a candy.
