Has anyone ever used Oceanic Natural Sea Salt Mix? How about Red Sea Coral Pro Salt? Any opinions on either of these, or if you've got a favorite mix for your reef tank, could you pipe in with that too?

I use what ever is cheap. You should test your mix before you do a water change to see what needs to be added anyways.

I use reef crystals if i can. Other than that its the cheapest one I can find.

Like I said corallife here the price is right, that way I can do the same thing every time. To be consistent

Tropical world of pets has it for 45 a bucket. IO reef crystals.

Maybe I have other issues, but RC's seem to give me a nasty brown film on everything, including the mixing bucket. I am going to go back to IO to see if the salt was the problem.

Reef Crystals leaves a brown residue in my salt mixing drum too.

Any idea of what the brown goo is or if it's something to be concerned about?

I still used it all, didnt seem to hurt anything. I dont use one particular brand exclusively, i alternate between regular IO, reef crystals, and coralife by the water change.

I beleive, from what I have been told, it is the binding agent they use to hold the addatives to the salt. I am nit sure why it appears to grow though. I will see what IO does in a month or two. I have one box of RC left.
