I am buying an apex, and I am wondering what fluids I need to calibrate my Ph probe. its looks like there are 3 choices - 10, 7, and 4 calibration fluids. Also if I order the solutions from Neptune, it is $1.35 each. If I get it with my order from aqua cave they are $8.95.

thanks

For saltwater reef you're looking at 7 & 10 pH fluids. Freshwater is lower, so you'd want 4 & 7.

Buy a bunch of it. It keeps and you'll use it.

You should be able to purchase them at your LFS also for about $2 each. In saltwater you would only use the 4 for storing the probe when not in use.

The ones from aqua cave are 220ml. Does anyone know what the ones from neptune are? I don't want to spend an extra $14 from aqua cave if they are the same thing.

The packets are single-use, about 20 ml. 220 ml would be solution for many calibrations.

Note: some prefer the single-use packs because it is easy to contaminate the bottle.

I went ahead and got the 220ml solutions from aqua cave

Be sure to pour out a little and calibrate in a separate container (I have 2 shot glasses that I use) so to not contaminiate the solutions.

And, (Ken correct me if I'm wrong) you'll also want to keep that bottle covered TIGHT as much as possible as air can and will affect pH.

Yes, you are correct; as much as possible you want to keep things clean and opened the bottle as minimal as possible (open, poor, close). I'm not certain air will cause drift in the solution but I supose that it can...
