i did what a lot of people do in the beginning and buy a skimmer they didn't do their research on. i have a remora skimmer. as i have recently read on here, inconsistant foam. works good, then doesn't...

so i need some help choosing a new skimmer

right now i would prefer a HOB skimmer because i don't have my sump going yet and i think it's going to be a while untill it is. any help would be awesome

This is the skimmer I plan on purchasing when I upgrade to a 75. I've heards lots of good things about them.

I've read good reviews of the eshopps hang on skimmers on here. Just search for the threads. I too suffered with a remora before putting in a sump and a Tunze 9010. Good luck!

I am currently building a 30 gallon tank without a sump and I was looking at the Tunze DOC 9002 (the 9010 model is for tanks in the 200 gallon range) and using it in the display. Does anyone have any experience using one of these in the display tank? Are they noisy?

my biggest issue i'm looking for is noise. since it's not going to be on a sump i don't want something that is going to be noisy. the remora i have is pretty quiet, not silent, but quiet.

The cpr bak pak is not a bad skimmer but you do need to make a silencer for the air intake tube if you dont you would be able to hear it at the other side of the house.

I like it. Despite its being rated for bigger tanks, it consistently foams and pulls out gunk like crazy (40 breeder with 20 gallon sump). Definitely overkill, but I got a great deal on one used. Besides, I won't have to buy another skimmer when the upsize bug finally bites. The Tunze is quiet, not silent, but quiet, maybe more quiet than the remora.

I think the 9010 would be too big for in-tank use on a 40 gallon tank with its precious real estate. If you're willing to go the in-tank route, I definitely recommend the nano pak that has the skimmer and filter combo, or just the nano 9002 skimmer by itself.

For HOB, I've heard great things about eshopps and deltec.

Good luck and happy shopping!
