yes, yes you are! One of the best leng sy "caps" I've seen. Well done!

thaat does separate a tru Leng from many look-alikes the nodular growth. Whether is related to flow or to the coral specifically( IMO the later) I've never seen those nodules in any other 'purple rim cap'

Nice cap

That's nice! I have an all green version of that that plates out but grows the stalks from the center.

Looks like the Leng isn't the only coral in your tank with good color and growth!

That is by far one of the best green/purple montipora species I've seen in this hobby!! You better frag that and pass it around! ;-) Definitely not a capricornis..

I hope my "leng sy" does that one day. Mine is growing rapidly, much faster that my tyree flower petal, but not as fast as my purple monti. How long did it take before it started shooting out nodules? Does it just keep growing outward and flat before sprouting nodules?

robsnnny, absolutely amazing!

I acquired a Leng Sy frag a while back (at least I was told). It is now about 4" diameter. Color is great but no nodules yet.

What is the size of yours and about when did you notice the sprouts. Wondering if mine is the real deal now. Thanks for sharing.

Thank for the great comments.
My tank has been set up for 2yrs, the leng si has been in for about 18 months. I bought if from pacific East and it was about the size of a quarter when i placed it in my setup. Its roughly 8 inches across now. i had nodules after about 3 months. I havent considered selling any frags yet but will in the future.

Nice pic gasman and no doubt many look a likes out there, as with many other corals or the many names that they may carry has gotten very confusing over the years.

gasman, I'm not sure that the one you posted and the one posted by robsnnny is the same species of montipora. Correct me if I'm wrong as I've heard that differing flow rates will result in different growths.

very nice. I wish mine looked like that. Mine seems to like to grow big then RTN and I have to start all over from what is left. It has done that twice.

robsnny, what lights and ballasts are you using? What are you using for water movement? What else can you tell us about your system?

robsnnny
01/14/2010, 09:57 PM
Im using 2 250w 14k hqi's phoenix bulbs accompanied by 4 110w "454" Vho's on icecap ballasts and i have one vortech pump and i run one 750gph Danner pump on each return from my overflows.
I run a korillin ca reactor and a euro reef skimmer.

Pic of my all green one bottom right of the pic....I have a puple rim a little beyond it...I had to get all that beauty from 2 corals instead of one like yours!:crazy1:

same coral but certainly u can get growth according to flow for sure.

That cap is THE CAP b/c of the nodular growth.

So is this a leng sy cap as well? I thought is was an odd cap!

Thanks.

These pictures were about 6 weeks ago so it is about 1" bigger in circumference. I was just about to frag it some.

there are so many green w/ purple rims, it's so tough to tell what's what. Years ago people used to care a lot more about the ACTUAL lineage of corals, now people will call something that has a similar coloration something that it's not. It's a real shame to be honest... Even worse in the zoa community than it is in the SPS one.

Now, having said all that. WOW that's one of the nicest I've ever seen. One of my all time favorite corals, and yours is a stunning representation. Impressed (and a tad jealous).

Wow - thanks! This one does not have a purple rim though, basically whitish before turning green. Here is a better overall view of it from last week.

4 year later bump lol. So what is the verdict on these, there seems to be so many caps that look the the "real thing" has me wondering if they are all the same. Looking to get one of these caps soon, just don't know where to get the real deal or is it not worth it?

This... is the last known Leng Sy... that I received personally from Leng Sy in 2002...
The frag I had was a 2 x 4 inch bottom shelf piece...
