I have had a few reef tanks in the past, but never set up a refurgium before. I am in the process of setting up a 140g DT. I am going to use a 20g tank for the sump and would like to set up a separate refurg tank... I rather not have my sump and refurg all in the same tank for various reasons. My plan is to set the sump tank on the lower left end of my tank cabinet, and put the refurg tank on a shelf in the upper right side of the cabinet, the idea being that the refurg is elevated above the sump. Place a small in-sump pump in the sump and run a supply line to the refurg, and drill and plumb a bulkhead on the back of the refurg which will flow back into the sump (and dump very close to the DT return pump pickup).
I want both the nutrient uptake benefits of a refurg plus a no predation area so I can establish pods, brine, etc that will trickle back to the DT.
Is another 20g tank large enough to accomplish a beneficial refurg ? ... and is the typical tank light adequate for a refurg ? .. such as the one shown here-

Thanks !
