How long do you leave it in for? I added mine 2 months ago, thinking that it needs to be replaced every 3 months. My LFS asked if I leave it in 24/7. My answer was yes.

They told me to take it out. That when they use it, they add the bag for 2 weeks and then take it out. Then they add a new bag. But they never leave it in longer as it removes metals and bad stuff as well as all the trace minerals that I have been adding.

Is this true? I'll go broke in about 1 year from this hobby if everything has to be replaced very 2 weeks. This seems insane.

I replace mine every 4-6 months.. it's a great product in my opinion, I've been using it since it first came out and just sticking it in my HOB filters.

I do find it helpful to take it out and rinse it a little in a bucket of RO/DI water. every now and then

why not just use a reactor and buy in bulk?

What do you expect it to do for 4 months?

The GAC and GFO in it may be depleted within a day or two to a month at most, depending on the phosphate and organic levels in the water.
