I Warner Marine Supplements My calcium has bin at 600 for more than 8 years. I do not add calcium at all. My PH has bin 8.8 for the same amount of time. I do not add PH to my system at all.
They grew like this under 4 72" VHO bulbs, 3-175 watt M/H with 2 72" VHO and they still grow like mad under my 3-250 watt M/H with two 72" VHO set up.
I do a water change every couple of months.
That is what I do.

Whoa! That is about the largest colony I have ever seen. You need to find someone with a monster system and trade him some entire rocks for bare rock. I have to admit it is pretty impressive, but I can see wanting to get a little more variety in there.

Your ph is at 8.8 and your calcium is at 600?
I know another guy locally that has the same kind of luck with zoas. His secret is similar to yours as far as water changes go. He uses tap water and only does water changes when the seasons change . He is suliaman on here. Softies grow like weeds in his tank also.
I still cant get over how nice your tank looks :). Good job.

It really is incredible. Went over Dan's house the other day to get some of these northstars from him. The pics do NOT do it any justice. And from the growth he explained to me, he couldn't get rid of all these things unless he sold about 200lbs of LR in ONE shot.

Buganddoug

Thanks for the kind words Chief. How are the Zoos doing? Did you get the Mushrooms to take hold?

That is very cool Dan, I hope to have zoa growth like that. I'm less that a year into this addiction. but if I keep reading threads and seeing photo's like this, I can't see myself wanted to quit. Nice Job. Tim

I understand now that time and patience is something you need in this hobby. The cool thing is that I have a lot of patience. Also I get to meet a lot of cool people on RC that can help me out.

Wow! Nice to see a whole colony instead of those tiny one to two polyp frags :)!

Yes I agree with you on that. I find it a dam shame to see what they charge for a disc of 2 or 4 heads on them. When I frag my frags start off at no less than 25 heads on live rock and goes up from there. i just did a frag this weekend on North Star Zoos it was no frag I call it a colonies it had 105 heads and I sold it for $75.00. Not 4 heads for $50.00 like many do.

See the funny looking crud at the bottom edge of the tank?
That's a 4" matt of zoas in one of many 55g tanks that look like this.
Here's my pinky finger for reference. The bottom edge of the glass pane is 1" below my first knuckle.

your colony has grown large enough to gain its independence, it is now its own sovereign nation. NICE NATION OF ZOOS Buganddoug!!!! lol

Some days I think they are a sovereign nation. The zoos hold there own against my Torch and Bubble coral.
