Will changing all my lighting and pumps over to 220v instead of 110v help my electric bill due to a balanced load on electrical system thanks

Good question. I am by no means an electrician. I would think since you are billed in total watts used and not volts that it would be the same. Does the Amp load change on a pump that is capable of running at 220?

I dont think it will help you are still going to get charged per KW either way is the way I figure it but I am not an elctric guru so just my 2 cents good luck to you.

Theshiver, are you planning on moving to Europe or Austraila? Just curious.

if you look at the label on your equipment the amps at 220 are almost half of what 110 are

No not moving just tired of giving electric company money that I could spend on reefing :D

The equation to calculate wattage is:
volts X amps = watts,
hence if 220v draws half the amps compared 110v, it will use the same watts. electricity is charged by the the watt so no real savings if that is your plan.

agreed, 220V hardware does not cost any less than 110V hardware presuming the power draw is the same (and it nearly always is). You'll waste your money buying all new hardware if the only reason you're doing so is to save money on electrical costs.

you are still using watts and they will be converted to kilowatt usage and it will not save a penny ,its all the same .twice the voltage at half the amperage equates to the same useage of kilowatt hours .

No savings, and more danger.
