Hey guys help me out here I want to switch from a 29g to a 40 breeder and want to know if a 150 watt mh mixed with two t5s on each side so a total of 4 t5 bulbs will be enough for anything such as sps and clams

In a 40 breeder, JUST t5's should be fine for everything. Adding a MH, you would be fine. The more common set-up I have seen is 1 MH, and 2 t5's. That fixture will also be fine.

Nova Extreme Pro - 6x 39w T5HO fits and works great. It's what I was running over mine and had great growth rates.

NOTE: Those are not the stock bulbs in that picture.

Have the same unit and love it. What bulb combo are you running?

You would be fine with the setup you are asking about. I run a 250W MH over my 40br

I used the same set up on a 65 breeder and it was plenty of light.

I already have the 150w mh that was on my 29 gallon so I want to use what I already have. If I use just two t5s will that be ok. I have the ready fit from reef geek. Two bulbs on each strip

I'm running a 4 bulb Wave Point fixture on mine. Love it! I have everything from frogspawn, green star polyps to acros, chalice and a monti cap. My tank is thriving and everything is growing symmetrical with the others.

IME it's better to have 1 on each side of the MH, but you could probably use one strip in the front or back.

PS, the more bulbs, the larger variety you can have in the bulb selection. For instance, if you have any reds, yellows, or oranges, something with a higher NM spectrum might give them more pop. Something with a higher spectrum might be a fiji purple, or 75.25. And/or you can do some deep blue actinics, and some more pruple actinics to vary hughes. The more bulbs, the more options. Might want to wait for that with the better fixture tho.

4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Actinic White and 1 GE 6500K Daylight is going to have a lot of PAR and look good

I absolutely loved the colors and pop with this combo.

Even a 4 bulb T5 is very bright. Those 40 breeders are so shallow that you'll be fine with darn near anything but a single T12 fixture used on freshwater tanks.

You should be fine. I run a 175 watt halide over mine and have no problems keeping anything. Haven't tried clams though, but have done SPS and nems no problem.
