I need to set up a frag/quarentine tank.

I have an eheim wet/dry with just Ehfisubstrat Pro in it for bio filtration:

I want to set up either a 10 or 20 gallon tank. I want to silicone eggcrate up high in the tank to put my frags on. I want to spend very minimal money on this. I have the filter and the tank already. I also have powerheads. I need a light that will keep the SPS alive while in treatment.

Please keep in mind i will have the sps as high as I could put them in the tank.

I was looking at this light:

18" x 5-1/2" Saltwater; 36 watt, CD-26944
1-18 W 10,000°K
1-18 W 460 nm actinic

OR

24" x 5-1/2" Saltwater; 48 watt, CD-29695
1-24 W 10,000°K
1-24 W 460 nm actinic

Could I use one of these over the 20G with the SPS mounted high for a quarentine tank light?

There is a 96w quad tube powercompact that will fit on a 10 gallon tank. I have used this in the past and kept SPS in a 10g nano this way. I would highly recommend it for your application. otherwise a 150W halide should work.

No halides. way too much electricity for a quarentine. Id like to keep with T5's. These at least have individual reflectors while they are prob not the greatest. Hoping one of those two will work if the corals are high up and the light rests right on the top of the tank.

are they individual reflectors?
I would go with 4 tubes @ 24"
In fact they are not only good for QT they will be good as a frag tank also...

OK, then you can get the 2 tuber and use ATI blue + and a ATI blue special.
Just put your corals in a row under the tubes, you may still burn the coral since you are going to place it close to water surface, so light acclimate carefully when you get it.

Yea thats what i was figuring on doing. Put the light right over a strip of eggcrate that is the same width of the light. I figured they would be enough light with that config. just wanted to double check.

Please report back this post when you get the fixture how you like it and how much spread of light you get with just 2 tubes, or if they make much noise..
I am kind of curious about them if they will work for me also.
