After 5 years or so do zoas all change to the same color if in the same spot in the reef tank. Meaning that they are at the same light level. I do not believe this is true but can not say for sure. The reason that I am asking this question is because a very experienced reefer of over 20+ years who also owns a store that sells marine fish and coral said this. He claims that all zoas will turn brown after awhile. I just wanted to see if anyone has ever experienced this. I have been reefing for 7 years now and from my experience I can conclude that I have never experienced this for myself.

Never heard this one before, I own some zoas for at least a couple of years and they have the same color as when I bought them, the only time they change color is when I change my lights color, and ofcourse when water parameters are not ideal.

if that were the case there would be a lot more brown in the ocean,

He claims that all zoas will turn brown after awhile care to devulge who this person/store is? just to prevent others from getting bad info.

I've had polyps for years, and I've had tons actually get better colors, brighter, gain more elaborate markings , spots, moprhing etc...

sounds like another case of a 'professional' very sure of himself and his knowledge. At a LFS. With bad information.

maybe you could introduce him to the IntarWeb and/or RC.

i have had beautiful colonies and then one day an ugly morph gets in the mix and after a long time they outgrow the pretty zoas. They steal all the light. im sure others have experienced this. The zoas didnt change color, they lost the war. it takes years.
