So the economy's hit me hard and I've been laying low on the reef scene for about a year now with 0 new additions to my tank. I noticed this week however that I have maybe 100 little snails roaming around my tank. Closer inspection has revealed that these guys have little whilte shells with brown spots on them, and when they're on the glass I can see their mouths just bearly fanning multiple rows of teeth exactally like my zebra snail does when he/she is poking around.

Since I've not added a thing I'm forced to wonder where these guys came from. Since my snail is my only snail in the tank I can only assumed he/she decided to reproduce asexually- but I diddn't think they can do that- Can they?

They are most likely little hitchhikers from your live rock (( the name of them escapes me right now )). They are harmless little guys.

Do they look anything like this?

For size reference, can see them compared to my Haddoni and pink skunk clown,

But... I haven't added any live rock since... 2005? And nothing in over 365 days

But yeah, guess they kinda look like that

Collonista snails. They multiply readily in tanks and roam the tank at night. http://bb.wetwebmedia.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=242

Nice pics Todd!

To the best of my knowledge, none of the the "turbo" snails reproduce asexually. Funny enough I just noticed a bunch of new ones in my cube, and I haven't added anything in about a year. Their population will wax and wane.

Thanks, and happy birthday.
