Just ordered some of this stuff. Can I just rinse and throw in my established tank? Anything you have to do to it?

I used the Eco Rox in my tank, and I would recommend that you give the rocks a 1 week bath in a vinegar/water solution. I used 1 gallon of vinegar for every 5 gallons of RODI water. There is a ton of junk in these rocks, and the acid bath will help to get rid of it all. After the bath, rinse the rocks well. I just used a 5 gallon bucket with RODI and dipped the rocks one by one.

Any DR is going to release some nutrients as it becomes saturated. Definitely cycle or soak the rock for a while beforehand. I put all the DR in my tank with the LR since it was a new tank and hand a huge algae outbreak only on the DR.

ok, thanks. I will do a vinegar bath as you suggested. What kind of vinegar is it? Just regular old apple cider vinegar or what? Do I just put the rocks in a tub pour in the water/vinegar solution and let it sit for a week? Do you add a powerhead or anything?

I bought 40 lb to add to my tank It is nice stuff verry verry light when you put it in water it almost floats till it takes up some water. very holely and porrus I have notised that it growes alge well though not sure if it is leaching nutrient or iff its structure traps detritus.

Awesome rock for sure...Definitely rinse it out very well before using it though. I'm going to have to run filter socks for the next month to get all the crap I've got floating around in my water because I completely forgot to rinse them!

I did not rinse mine at all and no problems. My rock came very clean. You will love the rock. Been very happy with it for about 2 years.
Allows for some creative aquascapting.

You'll love the rock, no doubt. I put mine straight in and wish I had cycled it or did the vinegar bath. Although I didn't have any severe issues, there are just so many nooks and crannies in this rock that it's impossible to get all the old debris out by just brushing alone.

If they don't have any than you'll have to wait or get the other types of rock they sell. You can also check out marcorocks.com

I do not have specific experience on BRS rocks but if they are light calcium carbonate rock similar to the Marcorocks I used, I definitely would recommend a vinegar bath, and a good scrub. With Marcorocks a 7 days vinegar bath at the suggested dilution would have left me with little rock left behind but I don't know the exact composition of BRS rocks and I have not had first hand experience with them so a 7 days at 1:5 dilution with white vinegar may be the right thing to do.

What I am trying to say is that the vinegar reacts with the Calcium carbonate of the rocks and corrodes it away. The more "pure" ca-carbonate rock you have the quicker is the corrosion will happen. Your goal is to strip the thin impurity ridden outer layer of rock without losing too much material. Use vinegar and carefully wacth your rocks and do not extend the vinegar bath longer than necessary. How do you judge? Take a rock out from time to time, use a brush and give it a good scrub. If the outer layer with brownish material comes out quickly you are likely done with the vinegar, otherwhise soak it some more.

If you are interested on the process you can look at my build thread Here (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1643671&page=2) where you can see pictures of the entire process.

I'm not sure that it makes sense to soak the rocks for a week. The Calcium carbonate will very quickly neutralize the acid. So, if you aren't continually dumping the dirty water and adding fresh vinegar, the rocks are just sitting there.

A couple of hours or even overnight should be more than enough. Or if you want to be aggressive, muriatic acid will get it done in just a few minutes. 1 part acid to 10 parts H2O seems to be the consensus if you go that route.
