Turn AquaClear 110 into refugium

I heard it would be a good idea to turn my AquaClear 110 into a refugium?
I currently have a 55g reef. I am using the aquaclear and red sea skimmer. I want to get a better skimmer, the octopus HOT skimmer.
Would turning my 110 into refugium be better? or should I keep it as is with the octopus??
If I decide to turn it into refugium, what steps do I need to take?

take all of the filters out and put live rock in it.....

I have live rock already. or do you mean take stuff out of 110 and put live rock in there?

in the 110, put Gracillaria grass in it, i believe the big guys call it glasso or grasso, it ill need some light though......
