Do they start as female?

and turn male as they get larger?

if they turn male as they get larger, when do they start showing sign as male?

They start female, and turn male as they get larger. I can't comment on when they start showing signs of being male. That probably varies with every fish, but I have not personally witnessed a change in this species, because I have not personally kept them.

Between 4-5" they will start to get more definition.
