What would make a fish get like this?

My friend has a sailfin that has just been getting worse.. what kinda illness is this? it's from a 150g. levels are fine.. what did it get?

The distortion from the bag is really bad. It looks like the skin is flaking or peeling, is it? It this a sudden onset, or has this been getting progessively worse? Any way to get a better picture? Might also drop this in the fish disease forum once you have a better shot.

It's the only shot I got from him.. he asked me to try to find out what did it... he said it's been getting worse

I had a 6-line do that in QT the day after I bought it. I did not have formalin to save it. I keep it on hand now. Check in the disease forum, but that's likely where you'll wind up.

You need to determine if it's an bacterial infection or parasitic.

Kordon Rid Ich is formalin & malachite green

A better picture would be helpful in that determination, but based on the skin, I'd be surprised if it was parasites.

How is the fish now? Certainly he does not still have it in the bag, so get him to get a better shot of it in the hospital tank.

he's in a Rubbermaid being treated. can't get a shot thats the best one I could and thats exactly what he looks like just HE!!. lol is theyre better med for him then e.m. erythromycin?
