I've got a Tridacna Croce for about 2 months and i notices that the mantle is not opened as when the clam arrived. So im worried if there is something bothering her. So after reading some posts i'm thinking in giving her a fresh water bath.

Is this dangerous for the clam?? and how much minutes i should left the clam into the fresh water??

Btw, my parameters are okay.. and my lightning is 2 HQI 150W, my aquarium is 100 gal.

PD: Sorry for my english, but my native language is Spanish :fun4:

Well atm i dont have a good camera to take some pics of his mantle, but the clam is reacting very well with the light changes, for example when i cover the light with my hand, she close very fast.

Anyways im worried because the mantle have like little bits and is a litle whitened in some places. Im suspecting about the hermit crabs.

I've tried diferent places in the aquarium, should i put it directly below one of the HQI?

Is it normal when a fish swim near the clam she tends to close??

Thanks very much.

for hermits take a 2 litre soda container, cut the top off drill some holes for flow, cover clam. if something is bothering it, it can't any more.
what else is in the tank?
what ARE the parameters?
is it on the rock or sand?
they close when there's a fish near or they see a shadow.

The parameters are okay. The clam is on a piece of rock

PH: 8.4
DKH: 8
Ca: 400
Nitrate: 10
Nitrite: 0
Amonia: 0
Temp: 30 (its summer at my country, its imposible to make it lower)

Transfered the clam today from the sand near to the HQI's. The clam opened more today.. I hope the white spots disapear.

Is it there any posibility that my flame angelfish is nipping my Tridacna? I've never see him nipping corals or anything.. but angelfishes are known for nipping corals.

it's very possible. angels are not clam safe!! none of them!
use the soda bottle and if the clam recovers, that's the answer
