Well, It's been less than a month since I obtained this tank, and so far so good. It's been a lot of work, but since this is my first tank setup since I've actually learned how to set a tank up, I've really found it rewarding, and it's been actually simpler than my previous 150G maintenance wise since i have been able to set it up to my liking, and conveniently as possible. I would like to start out by thanking jmmcown for saling me this tank and the awesome deal I got on it. He is a fellow FOWLR guy here on the large reef tank forums so go check out his new build as well. He also has helped me out a tremendous amount through the progression of this build by sharing info with me. I guess the next thing to do would be to list the equipment in this build, and I will do so along the way as I have taken pictures throughout the build. I have been so busy working on it, I thought it would be better to take pictures along the way and post all at once, becasue I knew I wouldn't have time in between. So without further delay here is my new pride and joy...Welcome to the Boone County Aquarium.

No I do not use UV Light, and yes it is in the bedroom. It really isn't that loud at all because it had those lids on it. It makes you feel like your sleeping on the beach. Lol

nice video. how did you reinforce the floor to handle a tank that size in your bedroom?

Baldwin
02/07/2010, 10:57 AM
Actually that was probably the hardest part. I had to carry about 30 cinderblocks about 50 fett on my knees, then I used wedges to make them as tight as possible. Trust me that tank has A LOT of support. Thanks for the comment.

I do not use a chiller. I use two ready fit t5 kits by sunlight supply. They're great and thanks!

This is an update of something I did yesterday. I hooked up a refugium to my system. It is a 50 long. I have since making this video added elbows to the pipes to direct the flow in the fuge. All I need now is more rocks for the fuge, and some caulerpa.

<object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tdZzUHGq2QQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tdZzUHGq2QQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object>

Here's an update of my display. I added 100 more lbs. of rock, which you can tell is the whiter rock. I have around 400 lbs. in the display now.

Here is an update to my tank. It's been a while and I have added a few new fish, as well as treated a hexamita outbreak. I have also bought some new equipment such as my new aquaticlife rodi unit which is pictured briefly in this video. I plan on adding two or three more fish to complete my stocking list and that will put me at around 30 fish including my 3 foot zebra eel. ANyway any questions let me know I hope you all enjoy. The water is a bit yellow in this vid because I have a special medication in there which helps new fish acclimate.

It looks better with the extra rock, I'm surprised you haven't yet had a signifigant GHA outbreak given a somewhat unconvential approach. How do you manage the excesses humidity in what is typical a smaller type room?

What unconventional approach would that be? If you keep nutrient export low algae growth will be low. I manage the humidity by running the ceiling fan/opening the windows.

I like your choices of fish; everyone looks like they are getting along great!! Hopefully that Passer won't upset the balance....

love the choices of fish, but I'm concerned because your stand isn't painted/sealed. You could develop some mold/water intrusion problems because of that, just keep an eye out!

me too, I think that his smaller size will make him alright in the mix, and if they grow together they will usually workout together long term.

That is just the trim of the tank, and I have often considered painting the entire thing white, the paint fumes just scare me every time. Also this tank have 3 lids on top of it, which means that water very rarely gets on anything. I appreciate the thought. What are your thoughts about painting it?
