I am going to cycle my 20 QT tank using the shrimp method. I have a couple of questions. Should I use water from my healthy DT to cycle with or should I just use freshly mixed saltwater?

And do I just toss one shrimp in and let it ride? Like a normal sized raw shrimp?

Thanks

You can use either or. I used 50/50 when I cycled my QT.

It really doesn't matter much as long as your temp and salinity are pretty much identical. As for the shrimp, just toss it in and wait for the ammonia to come. Once it peaks, then it's safe to remove and allow to finish cycling.

It speeds up the process a bit to mince the shrimp up. Smash it, slice it, chop it, blend it or what ever. This will also reduce the amount of time that you smell the rotting shrimp when near the tank.

Why not use water from the dt?
Seems like a good reason for a water change....water changes are always good.
