My blue jaw trigger is always the first one to the feeding station when I put out nori, followed closely by the shoal of chromis that grab the bits that it dislodges.
I know it's common for tangs and other herbivores to be opportunistic meat eaters, but how often do carnivores turn into salad fanatics?

IDK - I was very suprised at how interested my goldenheart trigger was in nori, to the point where it was stealing all of it away from the other fish. I tried imbedding the nori in plaster of paris, figuring the parrotfish would have more of a chance at it then. Nope - the trigger turned that to dust in minutes.

My pinktail is a algea hog, it's kind of a pain as the foxface isn't brave enough to take him on for it and eats small bites at a time as opposed to the trigger sucking down an entire sheet. He loves the green and brown types only though, completely ignores red/purple algea sheets.

my clown trigger loves nori, any kind any color, any form, any method of presentation it dont matter, i have to feed nori to him on one side of the tank just so i can feed the tangs/asfur angel/scat nori on the otherside

You can see how much my triggers used to love nori... all 5 of them were voracious for it.

When I had triggers, they would all pick at nori. Nigers, sargassum & blue throats.

My blue throat loves the nori as well. And I have been bitten more than a few times too.

Great vid recty! I especially love how lazy you were at the end playing with the magnets to get the last bit of nori off  I have always wondered about this though, if they eat some algae in the wild at all or if they are just that focused on whatever hits the water is food they will eat it type of thing. I wonder if they can digest it properly?
BTW the fins on that niger are awesome recty, I love how triggers swim.

Recty, that Niger you had was amazing, what was he about 10 inches? Great video too.
And yes my Sargassum Trigger loves Nori too...My Niger would eat it too, but he is usually still sleeping when I add it in the morning.

I have a hybrid Black Hawaiian/Pinktail and a Clown trigger and they both devour nori, BUT i don't think it's because they love it.. Triggers are just greedy bastards! My triggers won't even let the tangs get a piece unless I put two sheets on opposite sides.
Try this. Put some krill or anything meaty in the tank at the same time you put in some Nori and see what they really love. IMO, they will go for the meat first.

Yeah, the niger is around 10 inches. The emperor in the video is about 7 inches, as a size reference.
That niger is still in Alaska, I sold him/her to a friend who lives in another town and it's still going strong. Last I heard, it's about 14 inches long :)
