I have had a tank for a while and recently put a 2 clams in the tank. My question is what do they do beside make the tank look super pretty? Here is a pic of my tank by the way.

they open and close sometimes :D

My GF loves waving her hand over the tank at one of the LFSs and watching them close... much to my dismay...

they do uptake nitrates and ammonia, although think sps conditions to keep some of them happy (like maximas), negatives that I can think of are they limit the other things you can have in the tank with them (but what doesnt).

For me clams are fantastic additions to the tank. The provide a great diversity in appearance and they do provide uptake nutrients such as ammonia before it enters the nitrogen cycle and they uptake the other products of nitrification such as nitrate after and during the cycle. Also some feel that tridacnas will also filter out phosphate, something that is pretty good as well.
