ok . so for the past few weeks i have been dealing with this red slime stuff on my sand bed and also rocks . i have a 70 gal display with a 10 gal fuge my water params are always perfect , i do a water change every week usually 10-15 gals . i have a good skimmer , pump etc . so i did reading i didnt want to add chemicals so im going through a lights out period . right now im 30 hours into it and the sand and rocks look clean . but i turned the lights on quick and the water is dirty red . so im guessing a huge water change it needed ?

anyone care to comment on this ?

and yes i use ro/di water from day 1

thanks

I would go with the water change.
leave the lights off for like 2 more days.
did something die that is in the rocks somewhere also what kind of skimmer also how much flow is in your display tank.

im gonna try to do a 30-40 gal water change ....id do more but my water maker is sloooooowwww lol

the skimmer i got is rated for 150 gals . not sure on exact flow but i have i think a 1000gph pump ... it has a pretty good turn over ...not much spots in the tank where the water sits still

i dont think anything died .... i still see everything

I have similar issues on a 90 tech. I would be careful doing very large water changes. Don't create more problems. Red cyano is a common problem and could more likely be related to excess phosphates, poor circulation, low pH, or old bulbs.

i haev 2 power heads .....

my ph is kinda high . 8.4-8.6 depending on the kit i use .

i dont think circulation is an issue . there is alot of movement .

the bulbs are maybe 7 months old .

No, they will not die. Most people wish damsels would die in their tanks!

lol. When I moved from a 55 to a 70 one of my damsels hid in my live rock, in a bucket and in cold, low salt water that i added salt to directly. the energizer bunny of fishes.
