Looks like a porcelain crab. If it is they are reef safe.

+1. That is what it is. Absolutely safe. Now you can name him lefty:rollface:

Pretty cool crabs. They have a modified feeding appendage that captures floating debris like a catchers mitt/net. They are usually a bit skittish and you will probably see him hanging out just under an overhang in the rockwork where it can make a quick getaway.

Yeah deff. a porcelain. How long you think you have had him? Crabs regenerate their limbs, and if it's been a long time since you added anything to the tank, he should have a new claw. My concern is not that hs is or isn't reef-safe, but whether your reef is safe to him. Maybe a larger more predatory fish/crab trying to make a meal of him?

i got the live rock a few days ago. the rock is for my new 150 set up. However, i was able to grab him and put him in my 8gal BC. There is no live stock in this tank yet. The little tank is he best chance for survival.

We shall see how he does.

He is really small. maybe 1/2 in across including his legs..well the legs that are still there.

then he easily could have lost them from the rocks moving, or before he got to your tank. Very nice hitch-hiker.
