was at the LFS looking for corals and came across this guy. i couldn't believe it

Someone will probably buy it thinking its a cool small fish and then put it in a 30 gallon tank...

Actually I think they may eat some corals. Not reefsafe imo.

i agree. just seeing that tiny one gave me the chills. i asked how big of a tank it would require just for kicks and he said a few hundred gallons should suffice. lol i've seen baracuda's longer than some 300 gallon tanks!!! some things should just be kept in the ocean
and for those who seriously thought i was seriously contemplating getting him, well :lol:

I can't tell by the picture but my guess is Sphyraena gauchancho a small relative of the Greater Barracuda that inhabits the Gulf of Mexico. Average size adult 26 to 28 inches. We catch them occasionally in our sampling trawls that we do for population trend data. Still to large and active a fish for the normal hobbyist aquarium. Now talk about your messy eaters!
