Looking for ideas for a 20 gallon tank.
So far the idea is to go with a 20 gal tall, with a 10 gal sump. The question is to drill the tank or not, also need ideas on where to drill it.
Lighting is going to be t5 ho.
So looking for any ideas all of you may have.

It really depends on what you want your setup to look like. If you don't feel comfortable drilling it then just get an overflow box. I am currently running a 20 gallon but might rebuild it in the next few weeks.

My thoughts were to drill a few holes and install a coast to coast overflow on the inside. I might lose some real estate but not too much.

I love drilled tanks.

All I can say is check out glass holes. Great stuff.

Don't drill - keep it simple.

I have a 20g that's been flourishing for over 3 years now. 1 AC 70 unmodded, 1 Remora Aqua C Nano protien skimmer, 1 Hydor Koralia Nano Powerhead, two twin tube fixtures. (total 4 - T5-HO's).

I'd say with a 20-gallon, it's fairly unproductive to drill for a sump. If you can, I would suggest going to a bit bigger tank, maybe something you can turn into a sump when you really upgrade, like a 40 breeder. If you don't have the room, that's fine too.

I was limited to a 20 tall by space, not money. I have a eshopps HOB skimmer, modded ac70 refugium, 2 K1's, 1 K nano, 40 lbs of rock, and love it. I definitely want bigger tho.

For the 20 tall, I would highly reccomend the aquaticlife 4-bulb t5 fixture. IT is what I have, and I love it. Most-likely you will want to/need to change the bulbs out for higher quality bulbs(VERY yellow tank with stock bulbs). It has a digital timer for the 2 seperate pairs of bulbs, and LED Moonlights. Their customer service has been phenominal. I added a fan to the top. It cost me $9 for the fan, and no mods to install, as their is already a 12volt power supply, and was able to just plug it in(tiny bit more complicated than that, but not much). I did not notice any water temp issues for the fan, but DID notice the fixture itself(aluminum) did certainly get quite warm after the lights were on for a long time.
