Tried it a while back when I connected my frag tank and drilled a 1/2 inche hole for supply from pump and 2 3/4 inche holes for returns. I was limied to a very slow flow or else the frag would overflow so to up flow till more then 4-500 G I lifted the frag tank up and gravity drained it into the sump with a vent in the tubing (Durso style) and it's been running fine. just make sure the partition your draining in doesn't contain your skimmer as sometimes water level would vary (unless you have an overflow in the second sump) and that could cause your skimmer to overflow or under perform...

I would definitely raise one and let gravity do the work.

You can raise one, as said above, or you can drill and connect in multiple places so there is more water flow ability. Raising one would be cheapest and easiest though IMO.
