So I have my first few colonies of zoas and I am just smitten with them. I decided a want a Zoa dominated tank. As of now I have only some small colt corals, mushrooms and hammmers. Just wanted to know how I can get these guys to grow as fast a possible. They are under 2 150 watt halides and 4 39 watt T5's in a 40 breeder. I do weekly 5 gallon water changes as well keep SP at 1.025 and temp ranges from 76-80.

I'd be interested in knowing some proven methods for growing Zoas also. I seem to have no problem growing the plain brown ones - it's the reds, purples and blue zoas that don't seem to grow as fast for me.

Mine grow really fast, as do my brothers. We both use water we collect from the ocean. I have 4 t5's over a 40breeder and he has 6 t5's over a 65breeder. He has a lot of flow, I have medium flow. they do well in both setups but his grow a little faster. He also does 3 or 4 water changes to every one of mine. Im actually pushing 6 months without a change, but thats another discussion. I have found that if they are doing well and I move them, sometimes they will stop growing and even dwindle a little, so I think the real key is just stability and leaving them alone.

there was a thread on the zoanthid forum that suggested placing frags of zoas closer together will increase their competitive behavior and they will grow faster
