anyone know what this plant is and some info/links?

Not sure what that plant is, but halmedia is good in reefs, though it does need calcium.

Have a look at this thread from the Nano forum. The tank owner will definitely be able to ID that plant and steer you in the direction you need to go to acquire some more.

Caulerpa prolifera which is actually an algae.

Yes that is just caulerpa prolifera.

Yes, that is caulerpa which is a macroalgae, not a plant. There are many kinds of macroalgae that can be kept, although they are not true plants. There are marine plants such as seagrasses, mangrove, etc but the most common stuff you see in marine aquariums are most likely macroalgae (although as I noted, there are some true marine plants, just not as common as macroalgae).
