I purchased this guy about a year ago and it was about 1/2 inch tall and sold as a pulsing xenia but it has grown way bigger than any pulsing xenia I have ever seen. It is now about 7" - 8". Just curious if anyone has seen a xenia this large or if it is maybe some kind of cousin of a pulsing xenia.
I have two pictures of it on my site:

Thanks,
Chris

I'm going to say yes. I have 2 type's in my 70g, with one being identical to jbax's.

I have seen them the Gold'ish/tan color that the OP has in his pics. They actually look really good when you see them in a tank in person. The colors are much more vibrant.

Not Anthelia - their polyps grow off of each individual stalk - 1 stalk, 1 polyp. Yours has many polyps per stalk. The polyps in yours are very similar to Anthelia, but the stalk and growth forms are different. My vote is for xenia. If the polyps open and close, its a pulser. I have a blue xenia morph that has the same polyp structure as yours.

There a xenia for sure I have both Anthelia and xenia in my 90 and side by side there is a very noticable difference.

Does it pulse?

It does not pulse. When it was little it may have pulsed a tiny bit but not like a normal xenia.

Sure looks like Xenia to me. You know pulsing means right: the polyps on the end open and close as if your hand was a 'sock puppet'.

So, now that there is almost a consensus that it is just a large Xenia, does anyone want to trade for it? It is taking up too much space in the center of my 55 gallon so I would like to trade for something a bit smaller. Would love to get some zoas if anyone is up for a trade.

this is an artical titled " Coral Reproduction, Part Four: Non-Scleractinian Anthozoans Including Soft Corals, Zoanthids, and Anemones" from advanced aquarist magazine scroll down the page and find the family Xeniidae I know this is not an answer to your question but it does show just how many corals fall under the family of Xeniidae unfortunatly there is no pictures to go with the names and if you google them individualy you wont find much either. there is a few links on the page that are very informative. I know this doesn't help but its good info none the less.
