Is it possible to implement the float switch into the display or a HOB filter? I am not sure if the level in a HOB filter drops with evaporation. This is a 10G nano and I have no space for a sump at all so that is why i am asking.

You can definitely put one in the display. The HOB filter should always be full, but the tank's level will change with evaporation.

I built one in my old tank and am in the process of building one in my new nano where the float switch will be mounted to some lighting egg crate mounted to a power head bracket - so I can adjust the float switch up and down. It's not ideal, but still less obtrusive than the powerheads I've got in there.

What is the smallest float switch? And do they come in black? The ones I have seen are white usually.

I was thinking of of mounting a horizontal float switch like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Horizontal-liquid-float-switch-water-level-sensor-PP_W0QQitemZ130348695920QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1e59634170 behind my HOB's water return lip so that it is hidden. That or I can just make a bracket and do it the normal way. What do you guys think?

Some photoshops:

This is what it would look like from the front, faded it a little so it looks like its behind :) Don't mind that sauce cup in it, I was acclimating some zoas

I've never seen a ATO float switch so this might not even work depending on the size of them. Are they usually small?

I'm running sumpless as well and use one of these (http://autotopoff.com/products/ST1/)(the dual version) on my 55. I painted the white PVC with black krylon and it's working out quite well so far.

How big is it? My display is only 10g so theres not alot of space at all.
