View Full Version : Reef Safe Superglue?

I haven't had a tank for a couple of years, but a while back people were using a gel type superglue for attaching frags to rock. I have to build a top off this weekend, and the way my new tank is structured some of the 'glued' sections of egg crate (mounted to a powerhead bracket to hold the float switch) is going to be in contact with the water.

Is there any kind of easily accessible glue out there that people would consider reef safe?

Thanks!

Still using the same superglue gel cyanoacrylite. If that'll work for you're application its fine.

LocTite Super Glue Gel or plain super glue.

As long as it's a cyano type super glue absent of other additives, you'll be good to go.

Yep, just plain ol' Super Glue Gel for me too. I buy it at the dollar store, comes 3 to a pack for $1

Thanks. Looking at the ingredients on the 'Instant Crazy Glue; tube we've got in the kitchen drawer, looks like it's an ethyl cyanoacrylic.

Thats where I always buy mine at 3 for 1.00. They give you funny looks when you buy a whole bunch at a time LOL

Check the dollar store as they will often have the gel. There is also a guy on ebay that sells several onces for a couple bucks. Works out to be a lot cheaper than store bought.

At one time, grainger had it in bulk as well. You could buy 250 or 500mL for about $25 / $45.

Any type of cyanoacrylic will be fine in the reef tank.
