Think it's a devil's hand. Give it time, it's probably just being shy and getting used to things. I have two.

thats definitely NOT a devils hand. I agree that its a toadstool, having about 5 of both devils and toads. Here's a crumby picture of my old one when it was small to compare it to yours.

As for flow and light, I've found that the more flow the better with toads. They really perk up nicely under high flow. As for the light, they're pretty good in any, but they definitely will get their best growth under bright lights. And they have great colors for the green ones under brighter lights too, especially when you have a good blue supplement.

mind you just dont blast it with the powerhead though lol. They like lots of flow but i find that powerheads like maxijets and stuff like that which have a "jet" sort of flow just irritate it. If its like a SEIO or koralia or something with a wide flow like that, thats fine. Mine sat right in front of my SEIO as you can see by the picture

Also, before you stress out in a few months....toadstools do and will close for a few days up to a month for no good reason. Most people think they are dieing and come here to find out what to do, only to be told they need to weight it out.
Just a heads up, it will happen. :)

When they are fragged, they will be misshaped for a while. They can be very fussy. If you just got it a few days ago, it's still adjusting. If its extending its polyps only at night, your lights may be too strong. Was it under lower lighting before you bought it? Something to consider.
